CC Letter Requirements

August 19, 2009
By wfrunning Behnke of Weyauwega-Fremont High School

To Begin Practice With The Team:

  • 1. Physical or Alternate Year Physical Card on File.
  • 2. Athletic Code signed by athlete & Parents on file
  • 3. Emergency Information on file.
  • 4. Athletic team participation fees paid. ($20)

To Earn a Varsity Letter in CC->>> for WFHS:

  • 1. An athlete must earn a scoring place in any cross country meet Six (6) times.
  • a. Athletes who make the Wega varsity team for any competition will automatically earn a scoring place for the meet.
  • b. JV Athletes will earn a scoring place by beating any of the varsity athletes racing in a meet from any school

  • 2. An athlete must earn a total of fifty (50) letter points during the course of the season.
  • a. Letter Points are earned by counting the last varsity runner as one letter point, and increasing by a letter point for each place they improve. If ten athletes are running, then first place would earn 10 letter points, while ninth would earn 2 letter points.
  • b. Junior Varsity Athletes earn letter points by counting the number of varsity runners they actually beat in any competition. It is relatively easy to determine where a junior varsity runners time fits into the varsity timings, and translate the JV effort to varsity placement.

  • 3. All athletes must complete the season in good standing with the team, coaches, and school administration. An athlete who quits the team once they have met the other requirements will forfeit any claims to a varsity letter.

To Earn Membership in the 100 Mile club:

From the end of school, until the first day of fall practice, an athlete must run and log in with one hundred or more miles on the streets, roads, field or woods, and write it down in a log of some sort. This can be miles run alone, with a running buddy, or in an off-season road race. The only requirement is that they be running miles, and not biking miles, on the ground rather than on a treadmill, and you should have fun with them.
