Wautoma 2009 Ends the Wega Fremont Death March for another Year
September 23, 2009 By wfrunning Behnke of Weyauwega-Fremont High School
For close to twenty years now, the WFHS Cross country has had a massively difficult stretch surrounding the New London Bulldog Invitational. This year the Death March started in Bonduel on Tuesday, moved to Standing Rock Park outside of Amherst on Thursday, quickly moved to the Indy 500 race we call the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday, and conclude Tuesday evening at the Lake Lucerne Campgrounds just south of Wautoma.
And now the 2009 version of the Running harriers from Weyauwega-Fremont High School can settle down and practice and train normally as they look forward to the CWC Conference Meet in Marion just three weeks from now.
The death march traditionally has been used to toughen up the team both mentally and pysically. And once again these 2009 Kiddy Korps athletes from Wega showed up as competitors of the highest level.
With just Alyssa Keller for the girls, and Jake Kempf for the boys as the only seniors, this group of yougsters never quit on themselves or each other. Olugging away, race after race, they just kept growing stronger and more close knit as a Big Red Gang.
Here are the results for the races as the Indians competed in the Wautoma Hornet Invitaional on Tuesday September 22, 2009.
